Let’s say your current building uses old 40 watt fluorescent fixtures or about 175 watts per light fixture with old style ballast transformers and say you have 20 of them. This would be a load of 3500 watts of power consumption. Let’s say we replaced them with T-8 fixtures and lamps that use electronic ballast and offers the same light with just 3 32 watt lamps that would be 3 x 32 watts or 96 watts x 20 or 1920 watts - a savings of almost 50% or 1580 watts and a reduction of heat in the equation. Many homes still use incandescent lighting for example a recessed PAR 150 flood light this can be replaced with a 18 watt fluorescent lamp. It is not hard to see inefficient lighting vampires do add up to wasted power consumption.
One real power consumer many homes have is a pool pump that can consume, for an average of 5 hours, 1500 watts of power. By installing a DC Powered Solar pool pump, we can drastically reduce energy consumption to what would be equivalent of a 3,000 watt solar array system to just a 680 watt system with only 4 solar panels and a 3 phase pump and inverter.
